Prescription Allergy Check: Diane’s Story
Learn why Diane created RxAllergyScan’s prescription allergy check to keep you safe from hidden allergens.

Our prescription allergy check was born from Diane’s fight with medication allergens. In 2015, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. After chemo and radiation, she got a lung infection from mold, likely from a leaky roof. She took a drug called voriconazole and got better by 2016.
Then, Diane felt sick again. A UK lab found she was allergic to milk protein, lactose, avocado, gelatin, and lettuce. She gives this list to every doctor for safe prescriptions.
A Costly Mistake
In 2024, a doctor gave her Spiriva Handihaler. Her cough got worse. She found out Spiriva has milk protein.
In 2025, tests showed the mold was back. Diane took voriconazole again, but got a rash, blisters, sun sensitivies and swollen ankles. Why? This version had lactose. A lactose-free option existed, but not prescribed until after she found the lactose information.
As of July 9, 2025, Diane’s still dealing with rashes. This led her to build RxAllergyScan’s prescription allergy check to stop these mistakes.
A New Finding
Update — Aug 23, 2025: After four weeks of lactose-free voriconazole, Diane’s skin is dry and itchy. While making RxAllergyScan, she learned levocetirizine and montelukast, the allergy meds she had taken for years, may have lactose. She switched to Fexofenadine, a lactose-free drug.
Diane’s story proves why our prescription allergy check matters. Many drugs, even allergy ones, have triggers like lactose. We use RxNorm and DailyMed data from the NIH to spot allergens like milk protein or soy. For more, see the NIH website or FDA’s drug safety page.
